Umbilicoplasty: Navel Correction and Reshaping

Umbilicoplasty is a minor surgical procedure to correct or reshape the appearance of the navel (belly button). It can address an outie belly button (protruding navel), a stretched or enlarged navel after pregnancy, or aesthetic concerns about the shape of the umbilicus.

Indications

  • Outie to innie conversion: protruding umbilical tissue (umbilical hernia or prominent umbilicus) reshaped to an inverted appearance
  • Post-pregnancy reshaping: enlarged, stretched or distorted navel after pregnancy
  • Post-weight-loss correction: after significant weight loss or tummy tuck
  • Asymmetry correction: uneven or irregular navel shape

Procedure

Performed under local anaesthesia (occasionally sedation). Small incisions within or around the navel are used to remove excess tissue and reshape the umbilicus. Duration: 30–60 minutes. Day surgery. Minimal visible scarring when incisions are placed within natural folds.

Recovery

Swelling and bruising for 1–2 weeks. Avoid swimming and intensive sport for 4–6 weeks. Final result visible at 3 months.
