Brow Lift (Forehead Lift): Methods, Procedure and Costs

A brow lift (forehead lift) is a surgical procedure that elevates descended eyebrows and corrects prominent forehead lines. Lowered eyebrows can create a tired, angry or sad facial expression even when the patient is relaxed. The brow lift restores a more open, youthful and refreshed appearance.

Types of Brow Lift

Endoscopic Brow Lift

The standard technique today. Three to five small incisions (1–2 cm) in the hairline allow the surgeon to lift the brow with an endoscope and fix it in a higher position with sutures or small anchors. Minimal scarring, shorter recovery, natural results.

Coronal Brow Lift

A single long incision across the top of the head (ear to ear, behind the hairline). Allows comprehensive correction but results in a larger scar and some forehead numbness. Less commonly performed today.

Temporal Lift

Focused on the outer brow and upper eyelid area. Small incisions in the temporal hairline. Often combined with upper eyelid surgery or mid-facelift.

Direct Brow Lift

An excision above the eyebrows directly. Leaves a visible scar but provides the most precise placement. Used in specific cases (particularly in men with thick eyebrows).

Procedure and Anaesthesia

Duration: 1–3 hours. Performed under general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Usually outpatient or 1 overnight stay.

Recovery

  • Swelling and bruising for 10–14 days
  • Head bandage for the first few days
  • Temporary scalp numbness possible
  • Social activities after 10–14 days
  • Final result after 3–6 months

Costs

ProcedureCosts from
Endoscopic brow lift€3,500–€6,000
Temporal lift€2,500–€4,500
Coronal brow lift€4,000–€7,000

FAQ

How does a brow lift differ from a facelift?

A facelift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face (cheeks, jowls, neck). A brow lift focuses exclusively on the upper third (forehead, eyebrows). Both can be combined for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Can a brow lift fix drooping upper eyelids?

If eyelid ptosis is caused by descended eyebrows (pseudo-ptosis), a brow lift can correct it. If the eyelid itself is ptotic (true ptosis), an upper blepharoplasty is needed additionally.
