Ultrasound Cavitation: Non-Surgical Fat Reduction

Ultrasound cavitation is a non-invasive body contouring treatment that uses low-frequency ultrasound waves to create microscopic bubbles within fat tissue. These bubbles grow and implode (cavitate), disrupting fat cell membranes and releasing the fat content, which is then metabolised and excreted by the body.

How It Works

A handheld device applies ultrasound at 40 kHz to the skin surface. The pressure differential creates cavitation bubbles in the fat layer. When bubbles collapse, the mechanical energy destroys fat cell membranes. Triglycerides are released into the interstitial fluid and cleared through the lymphatic system to the liver for processing.

Suitable Areas

  • Abdomen and flanks
  • Thighs and buttocks
  • Upper arms
  • Inner knees

Not effective for: double chin (too vascular), breast area.

Realistic Expectations

Ultrasound cavitation produces modest results. Clinical studies show a reduction of 1–3 cm in circumference per treated area per session course. It is not a substitute for liposuction or significant fat reduction. Best for body contouring of stubborn localised fat deposits in people near their ideal weight.

Treatment Protocol

6–12 sessions, 1–2 per week. Each session: 30–60 minutes. Combined with RF (radiofrequency) in many practices for enhanced skin tightening.

Costs

TreatmentCost per session
Cavitation (one area)€60–€150
Cavitation + RF combination€100–€250
