What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is one of the world's leading product lines for hyaluronic acid fillers, developed and distributed by Allergan Aesthetics, a subsidiary of AbbVie. Juvéderm products consist of cross-linked hyaluronic acid — a naturally occurring component of human connective tissue that binds water, provides volume and supports skin elasticity. The cross-linking process gives the gel longer stability in tissue compared to uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid.

Vycross Technology: Allergan's Innovation

The heart of the Juvéderm VOLUMA family is the patented Vycross technology. It differs fundamentally from classic NASHA technologies used by other manufacturers. Vycross links two hyaluronic acid chains of different molecular sizes together — high molecular weight and low molecular weight chains. This mixed cross-linking creates a particularly homogeneous, smooth-flowing gel with the following properties:

Lower water content: Compared to NASHA gels, Vycross absorbs less water, resulting in less swelling after injection.
Longer durability: The lower water content means the body breaks down the gel more slowly.
Better shape stability: The gel retains its shape better even under pressure.

Juvéderm VOLBELLA

VOLBELLA is the softest product in the Vycross family and is specifically designed for fine lines and the lip region. Thanks to its low viscosity, it integrates seamlessly into fine tissue without causing nodule formation or unnatural hardness. It is particularly suitable for perioral fine lines ("smoker's lines") and subtle lip shaping.

Juvéderm VOLITE

VOLITE is a skin booster product belonging to a different product category from the other Juvéderm preparations. VOLITE is injected in very small amounts superficially into the dermis.

Treatment Indications

Wrinkle Treatment

Juvéderm is suitable for the following wrinkle types:

Nasolabial folds: The folds running from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth are among the most common aesthetic indications. VOLIFT or VOLUMA deliver optimal results here.
Marionette lines: Folds running vertically downward from the corners of the mouth can make the face look tired. VOLIFT is the treatment of choice.
Glabellar lines: The vertical frown lines between the eyebrows can be carefully treated with VOLBELLA or Ultra, though botulinum toxin is often preferred first.

How is Juvéderm Treatment Performed?

Juvéderm treatment takes place in several phases and is carried out exclusively by licensed physicians.

Consultation and Medical History

Every treatment begins with a detailed doctor-patient consultation. The physician takes a complete medical history, informs about possible risks and contraindications and discusses realistic treatment goals with the patient. Photographic documentation is standard in any reputable aesthetic practice.

Preparation and Anaesthesia

The treatment area is cleaned and disinfected. At the patient's request or for particularly sensitive areas (e.g. lips), a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied. Since all modern Juvéderm VOLUMA products contain lidocaine, injection pain is generally well tolerated.
