HIFU: High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound for Non-Surgical Lifting

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) delivers concentrated ultrasound energy to precise depths within the skin — targeting the SMAS layer (the same layer addressed in surgical facelifts) without damaging the overlying skin. The thermal effect stimulates neocollagenesis and tissue tightening over 3–6 months.

How HIFU Works

Ultrasound energy is focused like a lens — passing harmlessly through the epidermis and dermis before converging at the target depth (1.5 mm, 3 mm or 4.5 mm depending on cartridge). At the focal point, temperatures of 60–70°C create coagulation points that trigger a healing and tightening response.

Treatment Areas

  • Brow lifting and forehead tightening
  • Jawline and jowl tightening
  • Neck laxity (turkey neck)
  • Décolleté and chest skin
  • Body: abdomen, inner thighs (skin tightening)
  • Ultherapy (Merz): FDA-cleared, most clinical evidence
  • Ultraformer III/MPT (Classys): faster treatment, popular in Asia
  • Doublo: comparable technology at lower cost

Results

Initial tightening from coagulation, then progressive improvement over 3–6 months as new collagen forms. Results last 12–24 months. Best results in mild to moderate skin laxity.
