Beard Transplant: Hair Transplantation for Facial Hair

A beard transplant uses the same principles as scalp hair transplantation to restore or create facial hair — beard, moustache, sideburns or eyebrows. Individual hair follicles (grafts) are harvested from a donor area (typically the back of the scalp or under the chin) and implanted into the desired facial area at the correct angle and direction.

Technique

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

The standard method. Individual follicular units are extracted one by one from the donor area using a micro-punch device (0.8–1.0 mm diameter). No linear scar in the donor area. Grafts are implanted using fine needles at the correct growth angle to mimic natural beard direction.

Number of Grafts

  • Full beard: 1,500–3,000 grafts
  • Goatee area only: 500–1,500 grafts
  • Filling sparse beard: 500–1,000 grafts
  • Moustache: 400–800 grafts

Results

Transplanted hairs fall out 2–4 weeks after surgery (shock loss — normal). New hair growth begins at 3–4 months. Full result visible at 12 months. Transplanted beard hairs grow permanently and can be shaved and styled like natural beard.
